Daily writing prompt
What technology would you be better off without, why?

If I had to choose one technology I’d be better off without, it would be online pornography. Not because technology is bad, but because of how online pornography effects emotions, expectations, and real relationships. For many, it becomes a quick escape from loneliness, stress, or difficult emotions — but that escape usually leads to more isolation and less confidence in real connection.

How Porn Impacts the Brain and Real Relationships

Online porn is built for fast dopamine spikes — intense stimulation that feels good in the moment but often leads to emotional crashes afterward. Over time, the online pornography effects condition the brain to these artificial highs, making real intimacy feel less exciting or satisfying, which can eventually lead to an addiction.

At the same time, porn is a performance, staged and exaggerated to feel unrealistically intense. Regular exposure can warp expectations, making people believe sex should look or feel like what they see on-screen. The effects of constant exposure create pressure, comparison, and emotional distance between partners, hurting the closeness that real intimacy requires.

Choosing Real Moments Instead

When I think about what brings real joy and connection, it’s always real people, real feelings, and real experiences. No screen will ever replace that.

Apps like ThoughtsBeCaught help people understand habits like this and reconnect with what genuinely matters. Sometimes the best upgrade in life is letting go of the technology that quietly drains us due to online pornography effects.
