The Experiences That Helped Me Grow the Most Were the Ones That Hurt
The experiences that helped me grow the most were not the easy ones. Instead, they were the moments that tested me, slowed me down, and forced me to look inward to discover true personal growth.

If someone asked which experiences in life helped me grow, they might expect stories about success — achievements, wins, or proud milestones. However, the truth is harder to admit. These moments of adversity were crucial for my personal growth.
Failure changed me more than success ever did.
At times, progress felt painfully slow — especially while building my mental wellness app, ThoughtsBeCaught, and watching growth come far slower than I hoped. When you pour your heart into something meant to help people and it doesn’t immediately take off, it can start to feel personal.
But it isn’t.
In reality, it’s part of the process. Sometimes the darkest moments become the turning points that shape who you become next.
The Wake-Up Call That Forced Me to Change
One of the experiences that helped me grow the most was a moment that forced me to realize how fragile everything really is — how close a person can come to giving up entirely.
Surviving that moment didn’t just keep me alive. Instead, it forced me to reevaluate everything:
What mattered.
What didn’t.
What kind of life I wanted to build if I was given another chance.
Because of that wake-up call, I found a mission: to help others feel seen, understood, and supported through technology.
That moment became the seed of ThoughtsBeCaught app.
Why Failure Became My Greatest Teacher
Failure strips away illusions and forces honesty. When things don’t go as planned, you begin to learn lessons success never teaches. In fact, many of the most important lessons on personal growth came from failure, not from easy wins.
For example, failure taught me:
• Patience
• Resilience
• Humility
• Problem-solving
• Compassion for others who are struggling
Success feels good in the moment. However, failure builds depth and character over time.
Most importantly, it teaches you how to stand back up.
Finishing College Helped Me Discover My Talent
Another experience that helped me grow was finishing college and earning my IT bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in programming.
Before that, I didn’t fully understand what I was capable of. Programming gave me something powerful — a way to build ideas into reality and create tools that could help people. Notably, this period marked a huge step in my personal growth.
It wasn’t just a degree.
It was proof that I could finish something difficult.
More importantly, it showed me I had a talent worth developing.
Slow Growth Doesn’t Mean You’re Failing
Building something meaningful — especially something designed to help people — takes time. Slow growth can feel discouraging, but it doesn’t mean you’re failing.
Instead, it means you’re laying groundwork. Ultimately, the journey of slow progress is a necessary part of personal growth.
Every line of code, every improvement, and every person helped along the way matters more than overnight success. ThoughtsBeCaught isn’t just an app; it represents the belief that pain can be transformed into purpose.
Growth Comes From What You Survive
Looking back, the experiences that helped me grow the most were:
• Failing and trying again
• Facing moments that forced perspective
• Finishing something difficult
• Discovering a talent through persistence
• Turning pain into something that helps others
Growth rarely comes from comfort. Instead, it comes from surviving what you once believed you couldn’t.
If You’re Struggling Right Now
If you feel like you’re failing, stuck, or falling behind, you might actually be in the middle of becoming stronger.
Your story isn’t over.
Sometimes the chapter that feels like everything is falling apart is actually the one where your future begins. And if you can turn your struggles into something that helps even one other person, your pain didn’t go to waste.
That’s what I’m trying to do with ThoughtsBeCaught app — proof that change is possible, even when it doesn’t feel like it yet.
Change is possible — and here’s the proof.
