I used to think “managing screen time” meant just putting my phone down. But for me, it’s much more about managing my mind. Managing digital use involves more than just logging off.
I notice the early signs when I’ve been on screens too long — my thoughts feel louder, my body feels tense, and time starts to blur. So I’ve built rituals around stepping away to better manage digital use:
- I check in with how my body feels, not just how much time has passed, which is crucial in managing digital use effectively.
- I take 10-minute sensory breaks with no noise, no notifications, just breathing or stretching. This is essential for managing digital use healthily.
- I keep one space in my home completely tech-free, so I have somewhere to “return” to myself.
- When I’m working, I treat screens like tools, not background noise — if I’m scrolling without intention, that’s my cue to stop.
And honestly, I remind myself of this a lot:
The world will still be there when I look up.
But the moment I’m in — my breath, my thoughts, my body — managing digital use helps me not to miss the important parts.

Wow that’s a great idea, I hope to incorporate that into my household as well. Would give time for self and time to make memories with loved ones.
