Daily writing prompt
You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?

The answer wasn’t as easy as I expected. It made me stop and think about my mental health journey — the ups, the downs, and the parts that still feel unfinished.

If I’m being honest, my story isn’t about perfect progress.
It’s about struggle, survival, and slowly learning how to stand back up again.

That’s why the sentence “Change is possible — and here’s the proof” feels like the most honest place to begin.

Life Isn’t a Straight Line

Most autobiographies start with accomplishments.

Mine would probably start with confusion, just like many others who begin their own journey to improve mental health.

There have been times when life felt like it was moving backward instead of forward. Depression made everything heavier, while manic energy sometimes pushed me too far in the opposite direction.

If you’ve experienced mood swings, you understand the strange balance:
some days your mind moves so fast you feel unstoppable, and other days even getting out of bed feels like climbing a mountain.

For a long time, I thought something inside me was broken. For me, this feeling was part of my mental health journey.

When Your Mind Becomes the Battlefield

The hardest part about mental struggles isn’t always what happens around you. In fact, much of the mental health journey is about everything happening within.

It’s what happens inside your own mind.

Thoughts start stacking on top of each other:

When thoughts spiral, they feel real. But one thing I’ve slowly learned is this:

Thoughts are not always truth.

Sometimes they’re emotions. Sometimes they’re stress. Sometimes they’re just storms passing through your mind. This realization came to me during my own mental health journey.

Building Something That Helps Me Stay Grounded

That realization is what eventually led me to build the ThoughtsBeCaught app. My journey toward better mental health played a big role in creating this tool.

At first it wasn’t meant to be a product or company. It was simply something I created to help myself stay grounded.

When depressing thoughts appear, writing them down slows the spiral.
When manic energy takes over, logging my thoughts helps me step back and observe what’s happening.

The idea is simple:

Catch the thought before the thought catches you.

That small moment of awareness between a thought and your reaction can sometimes change everything. In every step of this mental health journey, awareness has been key for me.

Progress Doesn’t Mean Perfect

I still feel like a mess some days. Life still throws curveballs. Mental health is never something you completely “solve.” These lessons became clear as I moved along my mental health journey.

But progress isn’t about perfection — it’s about finding tools that help you navigate the storms.

For me, those tools include writing, reflection, and continuing to build ThoughtsBeCaught app as a place where people can track their thoughts, understand their emotions, and remind themselves they’re not alone.

If even one person opens the app during a difficult moment and feels a little more grounded, then the struggles that led to building it were worth it. This app is part of my ongoing journey in mental health.

The Sentence Still Feels Right

So if I ever write my autobiography, I think the opening line would still be the same:

Change is possible — and here’s the proof.

Not because everything turned out perfectly.

But because I kept going. And in my mental health journey, persistence matters most.

And sometimes simply continuing forward — even when life feels messy — is the proof.

Change is possible — and here’s the proof.
