If I could have something named after me, I would want it to be a holiday.
Not a holiday centered on gifts, parties, or sales, but one centered on something that truly matters. I would want it to stand for mental health awareness, second chances for people who have been in jail, and recognition for suicide survivors and those rebuilding their lives after their darkest moments. Mental health awareness would take center stage to highlight the importance of recognising struggles that are often unseen.
If I ever became president, I would want to create a day like that and name it after me, because mental health awareness and those are causes worth honoring in a serious and lasting way.
Too many people struggle in silence. Mental health battles are often invisible, but they affect everything: work, family, relationships, confidence, and the ability to keep going. A holiday like this would remind people that mental health matters just as much as physical health, and mental health awareness would be a major focus. It would be a time to encourage compassion, understanding, and real support instead of shame.
I would also want this holiday to recognize the importance of second chances. People who have been in jail should not automatically be treated like they are beyond hope forever. Yes, accountability matters. Effort matters. Change takes work. But rehabilitation matters too. A person should have the chance to grow, learn, and become better. Some of the strongest people are the ones who had to rebuild themselves from the ground up.
That same spirit of hope matters for suicide survivors and people who have walked through deep pain and made it through. Their lives matter. Their stories matter. Their survival matters. A holiday like this would say clearly that people are not defined only by their worst day. They are defined by what they fight through, what they overcome, and who they choose to become. Above all, it would spread mental health awareness and hope for second chances.
To me, this holiday would stand for one big idea: people can change, heal, and grow if they are willing to put in the effort and if society is willing to believe that restoration is possible.
The world needs more reminders of hope. It needs more reminders that struggling does not make someone worthless. It needs more reminders that broken moments do not have to be the end of someone’s story.
If I could have something named after me, that is what I would want it to be. A holiday that reminds people to care about mental health, believe in rehabilitation, and never underestimate the power of a second chance.
Change is possible — and here’s the proof.
