Camping has always been part of my life—but what it means has changed. In fact, my camping experiences have evolved a lot over time.
When I was a kid, camping felt like freedom. My friends and I would go out on weekends with no rules, no parents, and no limits. We’d hike for hours, explore, and get into a little trouble along the way. Back then, camping wasn’t about nature—it was about independence and doing whatever we wanted. Those early camping experiences really shaped how I see adventure.
Now, camping is different.
It’s quieter. Slower. More intentional. To be clear, my camping experiences are now less about wildness and more about presence.
I take time to set up the campsite, stay comfortable, and actually enjoy the moment. I notice the silence, the air, and the break from everything going on in life. These are the camping experiences I value most as an adult.
I usually camp with my woman. Even when things aren’t perfect, being out there brings a kind of honesty and calm that’s hard to find anywhere else.
Camping used to be about getting away with things.
Now it’s about getting away from everything.
And somewhere along the way, that became even more meaningful.
Change is possible — and here’s the proof.
